Everything Is Fine, installing

Proposal 2010 for Everything Is Fine

Everything Is Fine is a site-specific installation of recycled corrugated plastic cut into 3-D letter shapes stacked to form the statement Everything Is Fine. The light 6mm plastic will be seamlessly glued to create the letters as hollow sculptural forms. The plastic will be painted a bright red on the outside. I am increasingly more interested in our forms of communication as a culture and how quickly we have gone from books to i-pads and letters to Facebook. I am working on a series of pieces investigating our American history through public discourse, media and advertising under the title Everything Is Fine. This title is both soothing and ironic, and begs to be an actual presence, which is what I want for the installation; a bold and fun object with a towering question wrapped into a visually stunning piece.
